Canadian Journalists for Human Rights Special Screening of THE LETTER

Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) will screen Hamzeh Mystique Films' critically acclaimed feature-length documentary "The Letter" in Toronto, Canada -- Friday, May 21, 2004; Director Ziad Hamzeh invited to appear as guest speaker.

May 20, 2004--Journalists for Human Rights (JHR), a growing charitable organization dedicated to building the capacity of African journalists by providing them with the necessary tools to report concretely and accurately about human rights issues, is having a special screening of Hamzeh Mystique Films' critically acclaimed documentary "The Letter". Writer and director Ziad H. Hamzeh has been invited to appear as guest speaker.

JHR's special screening is on Friday, May 21, 2004 at 7:00 PM at The Innis College Theatre, University of Toronto.

"The Letter": Overwhelmingly white Lewiston, Maine, is thrown into turmoil when 1,100 Somali refugees, primarily Arab-speaking and Muslim, relocate there en-masse in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy; an event referred to by the international news media as the "Somali invasion".

"The Letter" was selected as the opening night feature event at the 2004 Amnesty International Film Festival, was nominated as Best Documentary at the 2004 Pan-African Film & Arts Festival, and was featured on NPR's "Here and Now".
